Organization: Our client is one of the world’s leading anti-poverty organizations, working in vulnerable communities in the U.S. and 12 countries abroad. They serve those who are homeless, living in poverty or seeking safety by partnering with communities to break cycles of inequality. The organization is comprised of five non-profit companies with an operating budget of $160M, which provide a comprehensive array of services in the areas of health, housing, jobs and justice, and leads state and national policy efforts that target lasting change for individuals and society. Summary: Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is responsible for the overall management of Client’s (HAH) fiscal operations. This includes financial reporting and general accounting; financial planning/analysis; budgeting and forecasting; and cash management. S/he will serve as a business partner to the HAH senior management and Board by providing leadership and support with strategic financial planning, reporting, performance and consultation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Work closely with HAH leadership team on planning, managing, and advising on overall financial performance in alignment with the company’s programmatic and strategic initiatives. • Lead budget planning and forecasting efforts and align these efforts to the broader strategic direction and vision of the organization. • Lead and oversee the activities of the HAH finance and accounting team, ensuring that financial information is verifiable, auditable and timely. • Oversee financial reporting, including monthly financial statements, regular balance sheets, grant-specific financial reports, and other reports as needed. • Manage the coordination of the annual external audit and other regulatory agency filings (Medicare, Medicaid, IRS Form 990, etc.). • Provide monthly management reporting that informs HAH leadership and the Board of Directors on the overall financial health of the organization, including information on financial performance compared to budget, receivables, cash flow, investments, debt, and any critical financial issues that could impact the company. • Ensure cash flow is managed successfully, including adequate cash reserves and/or cash contingency plans (e.g., line of credit), and the timely preparation of cash forecasts for senior leadership and the Board. • Establish, implement, monitor, and enforce internal controls, such as financial and accounting policies and procedures; provide recommendations for improvement. • Supervise an Accounting team that works collaboratively with HAH Program Directors and the HA Development team to manage private, foundation, and government grants, including the development of budgets for grant applications, the management of allocations and required financial reporting, and the process for submitting timely and accurate vouchers as required. • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of federal, state and managed care reimbursement payment methodologies including: contractual accounting, payment calculations, billing requirements and compliance issues. • Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages a team of four accounting staff members. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • BS in Accounting or Finance; MBA and/or CPA preferred. • Minimum 10+ years of progressive relevant financial experience, and at least five years of experience in a non-for-profit organization, preferably in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or community health organization. • Understanding of managed care, Medicaid/Medicare funding. • Experience engaging with all levels of the organization and interacting with senior management, and Board members. • Capacity to manage day-to-day finance operations while also thinking strategically for long-term growth sustainability. • Excellent oral and written communication, attention to detail, and strong presentation skills. The ability to translate financial complexity into clear presentations and to convey and present multi-faceted financial information and concepts in transparent ways is crucial. • Ability to synthesize data and information into key messages, implications and recommended actions. • Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including fund and grant accounting, compliance and reporting. • Experience with strategic financial planning processes, including significant organizational change management initiatives. • Strong leadership and managerial skills – direct supervision of staff including hiring, development, coaching and performance management. • Must be able to utilize MS Office Suite with high proficiency in Excel.
