We have flexibility to fill this position as an entry-level Underwriting Associate, Underwriter, Senior Underwriter, based on candidate background and experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides support to underwriting department as needed
Underwrites and process policy changes, renewals, and new business at the assigned authority level
Operates as liaison to agents and policyholders
Independently evaluate, classify, and rate new business submissions and renewals to determine insurability, coverage, and pricing within assigned authority level
Independently manage agency relationships while maintaining a profitable book of business based upon underwriting guidelines
Participate in product development and underwriting projects and initiatives
Mentors Underwriting Associate and support staff
Independently conducts meetings internally and externally
Mentors Underwriters, and support staff
Team lead for assigned department and company-wide projects
Functions as underwriting product owner as assigned
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or equivalent professional experience
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites
Underwriter (additional qualifications)
Demonstrated 3-5 years of professional liability, preferably medical malpractice, underwriting experience
Working knowledge and understanding of professional liability coverage, contracts, and underwriting guidelines
Proven relationship management expertise
Senior Underwriter (additional qualifications)
Demonstrated 5-10 years of professional liability, preferably medical malpractice, underwriting experience
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with agents and external vendors management, executives, various company committees, and board members
Exceptional written and oral communication skills to provide information in a clear and concise manner and to communicate with variety of stakeholders
Confident presentation and negotiation skills
Timely and accurate documentation of policy files
Effective analytical skills to gather information, analyze facts and make recommendations
Ability to prepare accurate reporting with broad scope overview and summary
Works independently and successfully to manage long-distance business relationships with co-workers, policyholders and agents
Solid multitasking skills and the ability to meet hard deadlines on tasks related to assigned book of business and projects
Contributes to the development and optimization of underwriting processes and guidelines
